"Navojoa"

Quiriego, You can visit it now!

"Quiriego"

Quiriego name seems to come from Latin words of the liturgy of the Mass "Kyrie" Lord and "ego" self. The municipality's territory was occupied since pre-Hispanic times by the Mayo and Yaqui Indians.

Quiriego is located in the southern part of the state and its head is the town of Quiriego. It has a total population of 3,356 inhabitants according to the results of the Population Census its population is increasing and will continue to be one of the most cultural statements sound.

"Nacozari de Garcia"

"Oquitoa"

The name Oquitoa comes from the Pima language and means "white woman". The municipality is northwest of Sonora and has 636.64 Square Kilometers.

It was founded in 1689 under the name of San Antonio de Oquitoa by Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino.

Most of the territory is flat and don’t have important elevations. Respect of the hydrography, has the “Rio de Altar” and the river “El Agua Caliente”. The ethnic group that settled there were the Pimas.

Local Festivals.

The main festivals are the rides of San Antonio and the Semana Santa’s celebration for which annually staged the crucifixion of Jesus.

Tourist Places.

Opodepe, the municipality No. 45

"Opodepe"

In 1649 the Jesuit missionaries founded the town of Our Lady of the Assumption of Opodepe. Its name comes from the "opo" means ironwood roots, plain "det" and "pa" place, "in the plain of ironwood".
