"Nacozari de Garcia"
The first mines in the region of Nacozari were discovered in 1660, and the people who settled in the place was called "Our Lady of the Rosary of Nacozari".
The Nacozari Garcia name means "Nopales
Abundance". The municipality is located in northwestern Sonora has 3,069.52 square kilometers and has 43 locations. Respect
to the orography and the hydrography, its territory is mountainous and has two
rivers.
With respect to ethnic groups, are rare, having only
127 indigenous speakers inhabitants. Most of the population is Catholic.
Local Festivals.
The main festival that is celebrated in the
municipality is the November 7th, the anniversary of the death of
Jesus Garcia Corona.
Tourist Places.
The main places to visit are the municipal
palace, the national office of copper and the local church.
"Oquitoa"
The name Oquitoa comes from the Pima language and
means "white woman". The municipality is northwest of Sonora and has 636.64
Square Kilometers.
It was founded in 1689 under the name of San Antonio de Oquitoa by Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino.
Most of the territory is flat and don’t have important
elevations. Respect of the hydrography, has the “Rio de Altar” and the river
“El Agua Caliente”. The ethnic group that settled there were the
Pimas.
Local Festivals.
The main festivals are the rides of San Antonio and
the Semana Santa’s celebration for which annually
staged the crucifixion of Jesus.
Tourist Places.
The most important places to visit are the
colonial church with the old cemetery, the kiosk and the Oquitoa’s municipal
palace where you can see the life of the town and the scenery.
